The Bags That Actually Hold Value in 2026
Not every designer bag is an asset. Rebag's Clair Report, Sotheby's, and SACLÀB agree on a short list of the ones that consistently do.
There is a temptation to treat "designer bag" as a category. It is not. The overwhelming majority of designer bags lose value the moment they leave the boutique, exactly like a new car. A short list does the opposite — and the industry data on which pieces belong on that list is actually quite consistent across sources.
The tier that reliably appreciates
- Hermès Birkin — the benchmark. Neutral colors in Togo, Epsom, or Clemence leather in sizes 25/30 hold and grow.
- Hermès Kelly — historically undervalued relative to the Birkin, closing the gap in 2024–2026.
- Chanel Classic Flap (Medium / Jumbo) — the most repriced bag in luxury; each Chanel hike lifts the resale floor.
- Chanel 2.55 Reissue — the collector's Classic Flap; strong long-term hold profile per SACLÀB.
The tier gaining momentum
- The Row Margaux / Park Tote — the current "quiet luxury" darling; resale demand accelerating (Rebag Clair 2025).
- Miu Miu Arcadie / Wander — Gen-Z-driven, cultural currency higher than pricing suggests.
- Chanel 25 and Preppy Coco — new-generation Chanel silhouettes flagged by SACLÀB's 2026 report as rising.
- Bottega Veneta Andiamo — steady demand, tight supply on certain colorways.
The tier to avoid if hold-value is the goal
- Trend-driven micro bags and "It bag of the season" releases from non-scarcity brands.
- Heavily branded logo canvas in oversaturated colorways.
- Seasonal collaborations without established resale history.
- Anything with condition-fragile hardware or delicate leather that ages badly.
"Hermès, The Row and Miu Miu bags lead 2025's luxury resale market."
How to read the shortlist
The bags that hold value share three traits. They are managed for scarcity by the brand. They have deep, liquid resale markets — someone is always trying to buy one. And their retail prices climb, so resale climbs with them. Everything else — silhouette, color, hardware — is secondary optimization on top of that base.
